Abstract

This study aims to develop an interactive e-book using the Book Creator application as a learning medium for the Basic Grammar course in the English Education Study Program at Halu Oleo University. The method employed is Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE model, consisting of the analysis, design, and development stages. The actual stages of implementation and evaluation were intended to be conducted in a future study. 40 students were asked through a questionnaire on the basis of needs analysis. From the results, it is found that: (1) necessity, students consider grammar as the number one importance to learn and 100% of them assumed that Parts of Speech are important to understand English construction; (2) lackness, students still find difficulties particularly on conjunctions account for 57.5% and prepositions (42.5%) respectively; (3) wanted, a total of 92.5% wish to possess a specific book on Parts of Speech and expect some features such as simple explanations, examples for exercises which could be facilitated both through videos or digital interactive activities in learning media. Based on these findings, an interactive e-book design was developed, containing six types of Parts of Speech, complete with examples, illustrations, YouTube videos, and interactive exercises using Wordwall, Quizizz, Kahoot, and Edpuzzle. The results of this study indicate that the development of this e-book is relevant to students’ needs. This product is expected to serve as an innovative alternative for Basic Grammar learning and to support technology-based English language teaching transformation.
