Generative AI policies for INTEK
(Effective starting from Volume October 2025)
These policies are established in response to the growing use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in scientific publishing. The purpose of this policy is to ensure transparency, uphold research integrity, and provide clear guidance to authors, reviewers, editors, and contributors. INTEK Journal will continuously monitor developments in AI technology and may revise or refine this policy as needed.
1. For Authors
Use of Generative AI and AI-assisted Tools in Scientific Writing
This policy applies only to the writing process, not to the use of AI tools for data analysis, computation, or research design.
Authors may use generative AI or AI-assisted tools solely to enhance language quality and readability of their manuscripts. The use of such tools must be conducted under human supervision, and authors are required to carefully review and edit any AI-generated content to ensure accuracy and integrity.
Authors are fully responsible and accountable for all contents of the submitted manuscript.
If AI or AI-assisted tools are used in the writing process, authors must clearly declare their use in the manuscript (e.g., in the acknowledgments section). This disclosure supports transparency, academic integrity, and compliance with the terms of use of the AI tools.
AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors, nor can they be cited as such. Authorship implies responsibilities that only humans can fulfill, including ensuring originality, verifying data integrity, approving the final manuscript, and taking accountability for the entire content.
All manuscripts must comply with the publication ethics and originality standards of INTEK Journal prior to submission.
Use of Generative AI and AI-assisted Tools in Figures, Images, and Artwork
INTEK Journal does not permit the use of generative AI or AI-assisted tools to create, modify, or enhance figures, tables, or images in submitted manuscripts.
This includes any modification such as enhancing, removing, or introducing features within an image.
Acceptable adjustments include brightness, contrast, or color correction, provided they do not obscure or misrepresent the original data.
If the use of AI-assisted imaging is part of the research design or methodology (e.g., AI-based image reconstruction or analysis), authors must describe this clearly in the Methods section, specifying:
-
The AI model or tool name
-
Version and developer
-
Description of how it was applied
Authors may be asked to submit original or pre-AI images for editorial verification.
AI-generated artwork, graphical abstracts, or visualizations are not allowed, unless prior written approval is obtained from the Editor-in-Chief. Such exceptions must ensure full rights clearance and appropriate content attribution.
2. For Reviewers
Use of Generative AI and AI-assisted Tools in the Peer Review Process
All manuscripts under review are confidential documents. Reviewers must not upload any portion of a manuscript or review report to generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) as this could violate confidentiality, intellectual property rights, and data privacy.
Reviewers are expected to rely on their own expertise and critical judgment.
The use of generative AI to evaluate scientific quality, generate review comments, or summarize manuscripts is strictly prohibited, as AI tools may produce inaccurate or biased assessments.
Reviewers remain fully responsible and accountable for the content and conclusions of their peer review reports.
3. For Editors
Use of Generative AI and AI-assisted Tools in the Editorial Process
Editors must treat all submitted manuscripts and communications as strictly confidential. Editors are prohibited from uploading any part of a manuscript, author correspondence, or editorial decisions into generative AI tools.
All editorial evaluations, decisions, and communications must be performed by human editors to ensure integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality.
Definition
Generative AI refers to artificial intelligence systems capable of generating text, images, audio, code, or synthetic data based on user prompts or prior training data.
Examples include ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Jasper AI, Rytr AI, NovelAI, and DALL·E.
