HUBUNGAN ANTARA READING HABIT DAN READING COMPREHENSION MAHASISWA JURUSAN TEKNIK MESIN TAHUN AJARAN 2015/2016

Abstrak

The research aims to investigate the correlation between the reading habit and the reading comprehension of mechanicalengineering students of Politeknik Negeri Ujung Pandang. Reading as one of the skills in learning English is consideredas important as other skills in mastering English. It is assumed that the data gathered from this study will give insight tothe English lecturers of Politeknik Negeri Ujung Pandang about the reading habit and reading comprehension of thestudents. The participants of the research are D3 mechanical engineering study program students for 2015/2016academic year. The method used is descriptive quantitative. To get the data regarding to the reading habit, a surveyquestionnaire called Adult Survey Reading Attitude (ASRA) from M Cecil Smith (1991) was used with a littlealteration. While data for reading comprehension, a reading text from a book titled Longman Introductory Course for theTOEFL Test: The Paper Test written by Phillips and Deborah (2004) was used. The reading text and the questionnairewere distributed to 49 participants from two classes. The study revealed that there is a positive correlation between thereading habit and the reading comprehension of the students.
