Abstrak

Preservatives The alkyl esters of p-hydroxybenzoic acid (parabens) are effective as antimicrobials, especiallyagainst fungi and yeasts. Although beneficial as a preservative, studies have linked parabens with some moderate sideeffects such as cancer, infertility, and miscarriage. This study aims to determine the paraben concentration in 20 samplesof body care products with thin layer chromatography (KLT) and UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Results from two parabentypes (methyl paraben and propyl paraben) were 10 positive samples containing methyl paraben with an averageconcentration of 0.038 ± 0.03% and 4 positive samples containing propyl paraben with an average concentration of0.019 ± 0.01 %, a mixture of 0.058 ± 0.05%. Paraben versions show the paraben metap rate present at the highest leveland sample of 50% of total body care products containing and having higher concentrations in the product.
