EFEK PERENDAMAN ALKALI TERHADAP KANDUNGAN LIGNOSELULOSA SERAT SABUT KELAPA

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of alkaline soaking on the content of lignosellulose ofcoconut fiber. To achieve this goal, this research activity is divided into several stages, namely preparation, soaking,determination of lignocellulose values, analysis and discussion. Materials and equipment used are coconut fiber, alkalinesolution, distilled water, a set of soaking media, a set of hydrolysis tools, and digital scales. Coconut fiber was soaked inalkaline solution with a concentration of 25%, 30%, 35%, 40%, 45%, 50%, and 55% for three hours. After soaking, thecoconut fiber is dried in a furnace at 90oC for 5 hours. Then the hydrolysis process is carried out using concentratedsulfuric acid to determine the lignocellulose content which includes hemicellulose, cellulose and lignin. Based on theresults and discussion it can be concluded that soaking coconut fiber in alkaline solution can degrade the content ofhemicellulose, cellulose, and coco fiber lignin.
