Abstract


Samarinda, one of the cities in East Kalimantan is a city that has a long history of the development of
acculturation in Islamic culture. The purpose of this study is expected to find traces of the influence of Islamic art culture
as a design style through a variety of ornaments on the interior and exterior of mosques in Samarinda. It is also hoped
that through this research will be produced a comprehensive catalog of mosque ornaments, so that development and
design innovation can be carried out. The benefits of this study are expected to encourage business people to develop a
variety of ornaments for a typical mosque in Samarinda. This research method is to do documentation through direct and
indirect observations, both interviews, artifact studies and documentation on mosques classified according to the
administrative area map in Samarinda City. The results of the study found that the ornaments of the mosque was
influenced by the style of Islamic art that developed during the Ottoman Turks, and were widely used include intricate,
arabesque, floral and Islamic calligraphy .
