PERLAKUAN BUDAYA TERHADAP LANSIA (Studi Kasus Kehidupan Lansia Batak Karo, di Desa Lingga Sumatera Utara)

Abstract

The increase of the elderly population requires special concern and treatment in implementation of development.
The programs are geared to improve the social function of the elderly who has medical, social, politic and cultural
problems. The role of family as the primary support system in caring elderly are such as; take care or nursing elderly;
maintaining and improving mental status; anricipating economic changing and motivating and facilitating spiritual
needs that can’t be seperated with values and customs as a culture adopted by a family. However, every different etnic
treat and respect the elderly in different way and different culture. This research use the fenomenologist qualitative
approach, that conducted in Lingga to 5 elderly family and 100 respondents that randomly chosen. Data collected by
using questinare, participant observation and deep interview. The result shows that elderly concept in Karonese can be
variously interpreted. Karonese elderly are independent people caused by Rebu and disgrace practice. The treatment of
Karonese family to elderly is the result of the independence of the elderly.
