Abstract

With the development of technology and the abundance of natural resources that are not fully utilized, it is
necessary to develop natural resources that are less useful to have high economic value. Related to this, one of the natural
resources that can be utilized is cassava peel. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of cassava peel activated
charcoal as an adsorbent in refining used cooking oil. This research method includes making activated charcoal from
cassava peel with carbonation at a temperature of 400 0C and 15 minutes, chemical activation with phosphoric acid for
24 hours, physical activation for 3 hours, after that analysis of the quality of activated charcoal of cassava peel includes
moisture content, ash content, volatile metter and absorbency to iodine, purification of used cooking oil, analysis of the
quality of cooking oil purified by analyzing acid numbers and peroxide numbers. The results showed that the best
peroxide number analysis was at 6 grams of activated charcoal with an interaction temperature of 100 ie 7.41 meq O2 /
kg which had met the SNI 3741: 2013 standard. While the optimum condition of acid number analysis was obtained in
the conditions of cooking oil adsorption on charcoal mass 4 grams and a temperature of 120 which is 0.41 mg NaOH /
gr.
