Abstract

Tarum leaves are blue or indigo-producing plants which are used by the Kajang Tribe as a dye on the sarongs
and headgear. Extraction of dyes from tarum leaves in 2015 and 2017 has been carried out but the results obtained still
contain other dyes indicated by greenish and reddish colors. Increased levels of indigo extracted from tarum leaves using
the adsorption method with two types of adorbents namely limestone and kitchen ash. The study of research variables in
the form of variations in weight of the adsorbent were 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 with an operating time of 1.5 hours at
30oC. The adsorption process was carried out by piping 200 ml of tarum leaf extract into erlemyer and then adding the
adsorbent according to the research variable. The adsorption results then measured absorbance using uv-vis then the data
was processed and calculated the adsorption capacity of limestone and kitchen ash using the equation Langmuer. The
highest level will be applied to dyeing a white cloth or handkerchief. Adsorption increased the quality of indigo
extraction and adsorption capacity using limestone 75.257 mg / g and 36.130 mg / g for kitchen ash. The highest
percentage of absorption in 30 grams of adsorbent was 83% which was applied as a white cloth dye.PENINGKATAN KUALITAS ZAT WARNA BIRU HASIL EKSTRAKSI DAUN TARUM
