Abstract

This follow-up study aims to obtain the right percentage of cooling media mixture (water and salt) to improve
the quality of carbon steel surfaces of St 40, and St 60, from previous studies conducted only one type of specimen
material, namely ST 40 with various cooling media such as: water, salt, oil, and surrounding air conditioning. For this
advanced research to be achieved is resistant to wear resistance. The research method analyzes the mixture of cooling
water and salt to heat treatment of st 60 and st 40. The target is to achieve the quality of carbon steel st 60 after
experiencing heat treatment with a maximum temperature of 800 Co heating directly from acetelin and oxygen gas, this
heat treatment method is called flame hardening method. In the cooling process, the mixture of salt and water will be
varied. As for the results achieved a mixture of salt and water with a ratio of 1: 3 one liter salt and liter water can improve
the quality of the steel surface of St 60.
