PENERAPAN METODE INTENSIVE READING DAN EXTENSIVE READING UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KEMAMPUAN MEMBACA TEKS BAHASA INGGRIS MAHASISWA

Abstract


This research applied Intensive Reading and Extensive Reading method that is appropriate to be implemented in English
subject at Polytechnic. The research aimed to determine the improvement of students' English reading skills through
implementation of IR and ER for Computer and Networking Engineering study program of Politeknik Negeri Ujung
Pandang academic year 2016/2017. The advantages of this research are to increase English skill and to broaden insight
in the field of teaching. Classroom Action Research is the model conducted in this research which consists of three
stages namely pretest, treatment, and posttest. Based on the pretest result, it can be concluded that the skill of reading
English text resulted in very poor classification for 8 students. Based on final result of research, the posttest of students'
reading skill developed as the result of treatment for 5 students in very good classification.
