Abstract

This study aims to compare the English learning achievement of students who learned and who did not learn English in
elementary schools. Critical Age Hypothesis states that 2 to 12 years old is a very ideal time to achieve the best English
proficiency. The results of the study can be used as a reference for the English language teaching policies in
elementary school. This research is a comparative descriptive study with a quantitative approach. Data from two sample
groups were selected through purposive sampling technique and then compared. The results showed that the highest
score (A) was achieved more by students who learned English in elementary school. Medium score (B/B +) was achieved
more by students who did not learn English in elementary school but with a small difference. The low score (C/C+) was
