PEMANFAATAN EKSTRAK KULIT BUAH MARKISA SEBAGAI INHIBITOR KOROSI BAJA LUNAK (MILD STEEL) DALAM LARUTAN ASAM

Abstract


A research on the performance of passion fruit peel extract to inhibit corrosion of mild steel in acidic media has
been conducted using weigth loss method. The passion fruit peel was dried and extracted, it was then evaporated to
produce crystal extract and it was used as a corrosion inhibitor of steel in acidic media of 0.1M phosphoric acid.
Immersion test of mild steel was conducted using different concentration of inhibitor (0-550ppm) for 4 days. The rate of
corrosion and inhibition efficiency were calculated and compared to those without inhibitor. The passion fruit peel
extract which contains lignin was proven to act effectively as corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in acidic electrolyte with
stirrer. Average inhibition efficiency occurs at 43% in water and increased up to 57% in acidic media.
