Abstract

The polishing machine is one of the tools used for testing metal structures (metallographic). The process begins
with mounting, grinding, polishing, etching, and continued with observation on a microscope. The working principle of
the tool is polishing the specimen using coarse, medium, smooth, and very fine sandpaper. The purpose of this polishing
machine manufacturing activity is to streamline the use of time in refining the specimens, as well as the presence of this
tool also helps the learning process of metallographic job practicum in the mechanical laboratory of Politeknik Negeri
Ujung Pandang. The making of the polishing machine consists several stages, namely: the stage of design, manufacture,
assembly, and testing. Based on the results of the testing and discussion, it can be concluded that the presence of this
polishing machine in the PNUP mechanical laboratory makes the learning process of job metallographic practicum more
efficient in terms of the processing time of test objects and also makes the workmanship of the specimen better in terms
of the observation process on the microscope after the etching process.
