Abstract

This study aimed to determine the compressive strength and the flexural strength at various nickel slag level, and
to determine the exact percentage of nickel slag as a substitute for some sand in the concrete mixture. The benefits were
to reduce nickel slag waste, environmental pollution, and dependence on natural materials use. Test specimens concrete
were made with variations in nickel slag levels of 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, and 80%. They were cylindrical in shape 30 cm
high and 15 cm in diameter for testing the compressive strength and volume weight, and the shape of the beam
measuring 10x10x40 cm for flexural strength testing. The test results showed that nickel slag increased the compressive
strength of concrete and didn’t affect the flexural strength of concrete. The optimum average compressive strength was
obtained at 40% nickel slag, while the highest average flexural strength occurred at 60% nickel slag.
