Abstract

Pari Kesit Farmers Group in Bangun Jaya Village, Tomoni Subdistrict, East Luwu Regency, is currently facing a serious constraint in the form of an absence of lighting along tertiary irrigation channels because the national utility (PLN) grid has not yet reached the partner site. This condition means sluice-gate operations at night rely solely on handheld flashlights with very limited illumination, thereby posing a risk of workplace accidents, reducing the efficiency of water distribution, and diminishing comfort during nighttime activities. To address this challenge, the community service program is being implemented by deploying a Solar Photovoltaic (PV) system (PLTS) as an independent, environmentally friendly, and sustainable lighting solution. The implementation method includes installing a 200 Wp PV system at strategic points particularly around sluice gates supported by 12 V DC LED luminaires and weather-resistant lithium batteries. The activities comprise the installation of four solar-powered lighting points, technical training for at least ten farmers on system operation and maintenance, formation of a management team drawn from the farmers’ group, and preparation of a technical manual to guide long-term maintenance. The result obtained was an improvement in work safety, accelerated nighttime water distribution, and greater self-reliance in the use of renewable energy technology are expected, while also providing a solution model that can be replicated in other agricultural areas with similar conditions.
