Abstract

The majority of Indonesia’s population works in the agriculture and livestock sectors, with poultry farming being one of the rapidly developing fields. Over time, the Closed House model has gradually replaced the open house system due to its advantages. This study designs a smart chicken coop based on the Closed House system, equipped with an automatic egg counting mechanism and air quality monitoring. The egg counter uses infrared sensors integrated with a conveyor to detect eggs in real time, improving efficiency and minimizing manual counting errors, while the MQ-135 sensor monitors ammonia levels and automatically activates the exhaust fan and cleaning conveyor when concentrations exceed safe thresholds. Test results indicate that the system can accurately detect 5 to 7 eggs out of 8–10 tested, with the highest accuracy in sequential placement, and significantly reduce ammonia levels within 30 seconds of activation, maintaining them within safe limits. With these integrations, the Closed House not only ensures better air quality but also enhances production effectiveness, supporting farmers in reducing poultry health risks and improving productivity sustainably.
