Abstract

The soap industry is one industry that is often found in Indonesia. The soap industry produces liquid waste with a high organic material content. As a result of the disposal of liquid waste produced from the soap industry without prior treatment resulting in pollution of the aquatic environment, it is necessary to have an alternative treatment using a biofilter. This study aimed to determine the effect of variations in the feed flow rate on reducing COD and TSS of liquid soap waste in Samarinda in the anaerobic biofilter process. This study uses the principle of an anaerobic reactor. The variations in the flow rate used in this study were 6 L / hour, 5 L / hour, 4 L / hour, 3 L / hour, and 2 L / hour. Parameters measured were COD and TSS and pH parameters (as additional parameters). In this study, the best percentage reduction in COD and TSS levels was obtained at a variation of the flow rate of 2 L / hour with a decrease in COD of 72.80%, a decrease in TSS of 65.06%, and a pH of 7.25. Keywords: soap liquid waste, anaerobic biofilter, COD and TSS
