MODIFIKASI ALAT JAR TEST PADA LABORATORIUM PENGOLAHAN LIMBAH

Abstract

The Jar Test is a method used to evaluate the performance of a coagulant in the water purification process. The analysis of the coagulation results includes turbidity, TSS, and TDS. The Jar Test apparatus has been modified by adding a measuring device equipped with a digital display to control and monitor the stirring speed during the coagulation process. The purpose of this study is to determine the modified design of the Jar Test, as well as the type of digital stirring speed controller and timer used, to make the coagulation process more effective and efficient. This research also improves the function of the existing Jar Test device in the wastewater treatment laboratory. Based on the performance test results, for the turbidity, the highest effectiveness of 47.40% was achieved using a T-type stirrer at 20 rpm. For the TSS , the highest effectiveness of 90.57% was obtained using a cross-type stirrer at 26 rpm. For the TDS , an effectiveness of 29.34% was achieved using the same cross-type stirrer at 26 rpm. The settling time after stirring was set to 15 minutes, with the use of 0.5 g of alum for each treatment.
