Abstract
The introduction of laboratory practicum equipment at the Multimedia and Network Engineering Study Program has so far relied on brief, one-way, and repetitive verbal explanations, leaving new students and external visitors without adequate initial understanding of the tools' form and function. This study develops a marker-based Augmented Reality (AR) application integrated with an AI Chatbot as an independent and interactive medium for introducing laboratory equipment. Built with Unity and Vuforia Engine SDK, the application displays three-dimensional (3D) models, tool lists, information panels, and instructional videos for 19 practicum tools across four laboratories, while the AI Chatbot feature is integrated through the Google Gemini API to answer user questions contextually. System testing covered marker dimension and colour variation, distance, angle, and light-intensity detection, and functional black-box testing, followed by a feasibility assessment using a Likert-scale questionnaire. The results show that an 11 × 11 cm marker is the most ergonomic size for laboratory desks, and assigning a distinct barcode colour to each laboratory eliminates marker misclassification. Markers remain detectable at camera tilts of up to 150° on both the X and Y axes and under illumination from 1–10 lux to 100–120 lux, but not at 0 lux. All ten black-box test scenarios, including the AI Chatbot feature, ran successfully. The feasibility questionnaire completed by 19 students yielded a score of 88.57% (Very Feasible), while validation by a subject-matter expert yielded 96% (Very Feasible), indicating that the developed application is suitable for use as an AR- and AI-Chatbot-based medium for introducing laboratory practicum equipment.Downloads
